Q Can I buy something over the counter to reduce swelling? I have also been prescribed a diuretic before.
A We do not recommend repeatedly using diuretic products on your own. Electrolytes leave along with the water, which can bring dizziness, muscle cramps and exhaustion. If a diuretic has been prescribed, keep taking it and tell us at your visit.
Detailed Answer
Stopping a diuretic can also cause rebound swelling. That is why draining alone tends to return you to the starting point each time. Those with reduced kidney function or heart disease taking diuretics must be especially careful, as rapid shifts in body water can be dangerous.
Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective
Rather than forcing water out, we work towards a body in which fluid does not pool. If you are on medication, we adjust the intensity accordingly. Telling us your medication and recent weight changes makes the plan far more accurate.
