Q They said lymph nodes are visible on the mesentery. How is this different from lymphoma?
A Chronic mesenteritis and malignant lymphoma can appear similar on CT, so accurate differentiation is important. A biopsy or PET-CT may be needed in some cases, and receiving Korean medicine treatment alone without differentiation is not appropriate.
Detailed Answer
Mesenteric masses and lymph node enlargement appear from various causes not only chronic mesenteritis but also malignant lymphoma, mesenteric cysts, and metastatic cancer. They are difficult to distinguish on CT alone, and PET-CT or biopsy is used for differentiation. In particular, if night fevers, night sweats, or rapid weight loss (B symptoms) accompany, immediate hematology-oncology evaluation is needed.
Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective
We proceed with Korean medicine treatment only after differentiation of malignant disease is completed and chronic inflammation is confirmed. We do not recommend Korean medicine treatment alone before differentiation, and begin integrated management after safety is confirmed.
