Q My stool is black and I feel dizzy. Can this be treated with Korean medicine too?

A Black stool, vomiting blood, and severe dizziness are warning signs of ulcer bleeding. In this case, you should go to the emergency room or internal medicine first without delay, not Korean medicine. Recovery treatment together is safe after the bleeding stops and you are stable.

Detailed Answer

When an ulcer deepens and reaches a blood vessel, bleeding occurs, and blood mixed with stomach acid may come out as black, sticky (tar-like) stool or be vomited. If dizziness, cold sweat, or pallor accompany it, this may signal heavy bleeding—an emergency. Also, sudden, extreme epigastric pain and a hardening abdomen should raise suspicion of perforation (a hole).

Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective

In the face of such emergency signs, treatment at a nearby emergency facility is the top priority, and it must not be delayed for the sake of Korean medicine. After the bleeding or perforation is treated and the condition is stable, Korean medicine plays its role in the recovery stage of building a stomach that does not erode again. We practice with safety first.
