#Causes Explained

Q The pain settles after I use the toilet. Does that mean it is an intestinal problem?

A If pain eases after a bowel movement, an intestinal origin is likely. Whether stool becomes looser or harder, and whether gas and a sense of incomplete emptying move with it, are also key clues. But pain unrelated to bowel movements, or severe enough to wake you at night, calls for other causes to be checked.

Detailed Answer

With constipation, pressure inside the intestine rises and the left lower abdomen often aches heavily. With frequent loose stools, cramping pain that releases after a bowel movement repeats instead. Many people alternate between diarrhoea and constipation.

Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective

This is why we ask about the frequency and form of your stools. Even with the same lower abdominal pain, a blocked, hardened pattern and a hurried, emptying pattern call for opposite directions of treatment. A few days of records lets us set that direction far faster.
