Q If I come to Dongjedang for the first time with a cluster headache, how does treatment proceed?
A After the initial consultation, we prescribe an herbal decoction based on a Liver-Fire and blood-stasis pattern diagnosis, and begin pharmacopuncture two to three times a week.
Detailed Answer
The Initial Consultation Process
At your first visit, we assess in detail the frequency, duration, accompanying symptoms, and pattern of your attacks during the cluster period. If you have an existing conventional diagnosis or MRI results, bringing them is a great help for the pattern diagnosis.
Treatment Plan
- Herbal decoction: a brain-clearing formula based on Yongdamsagan-tang (Gentian Liver-Draining decoction), taken in 2 to 4 week cycles
- Pharmacopuncture: at Pungji (GB20) and Taeyang (EX-HN5), two to three times a week
- Follow-up interval: progress review every 2 to 4 weeks, with prescription adjustments according to symptom changes
If you visit during a cluster period, we proceed with a more intensive schedule, and during remission we switch to a maintenance-management cycle.
