First, cold syndrome (han-jeung) —a pattern in which the uterus is cold and blood flow is reduced. Second, blood deficiency (hyeol-heo) —a pattern in which the blood responsible for nourishment is insufficient, leaving the endometrium thin. Third, blood stasis (eo-hyeol) —a pattern in which stagnant circulation leaves the endometrial environment clouded. From a Western medical standpoint, hormonal imbalance, thyroid disorders, insulin resistance, and abnormal BMI (under 18.5 or over 25) are also recognized as major causes. When preparing for pregnancy, combining blood tests and antibody checks with a constitutional assessment allows the underlying cause to be identified more precisely.
