Q How does not having rubella or chickenpox antibodies affect preparing for pregnancy?
A Without antibodies, you must delay pregnancy for at least 1 month after vaccination, so checking in advance is important.
Detailed Answer
Infectious Disease Antibodies and Pregnancy Preparation
Rubella infection in early pregnancy can cause fetal heart, brain, and hearing malformations (congenital rubella syndrome). Chickenpox (varicella) infection during pregnancy also carries a risk of fetal malformation and neonatal chickenpox.
Have an antibody test 3-6 months before planning pregnancy. If antibodies are absent, contraception is needed for at least 4 weeks (1-3 months recommended) after receiving a live vaccine (MMR or chickenpox vaccine). If you let us know this schedule in advance at your clinic visit, we will design the Korean medicine treatment schedule to align with the vaccination timing.
