Based on the constitutional assessment at the initial visit, Dongjedang divides prescriptions into three approaches.

Cold type (uterus-warming treatment): a pattern with coldness below the navel and severe menstrual pain. Centered on warming the uterus and dispersing cold (on-gung-san-han) with warming herbs such as Aeyeop (mugwort) and Geonggang (dried ginger).
Qi-deficiency type (qi-tonifying treatment): a pattern accompanied by fatigue, low energy, and indigestion. Centered on raising vitality by replenishing qi (bo-gi-seung-je) with qi-tonifying herbs such as Hwanggi (Astragalus) and Dangsam (Codonopsis).
Blood-stasis type (blood-activating treatment): a pattern with menstrual clots and severe premenstrual breast pain. Centered on resolving blood stasis (hwal-hyeol-hwa-eo) with circulation-promoting herbs such as Doin (peach kernel), Honghwa (safflower), and Cheongung (Cnidium).

Many cases are a combination of all three, so treatment is carried out sequentially, divided into stages by period.
