Dopamine blockers such as haloperidol and aripiprazole are effective in suppressing tics, but they carry concerns regarding side effects such as sedation, weight gain, and extrapyramidal symptoms. Traditional Korean medicine treatment regulates liver wind and heart and gallbladder deficiency using herbal decoctions that soothe liver wind to alleviate nerve excitement and nourish both the mind and the spleen and stomach, while stabilizing nervous system excitement through acupuncture and pharmacopuncture. In cases of mild tics, monotherapy can reduce the frequency by more than half within six months; for moderate cases, it is more realistic to manage symptoms by combining it with medication to minimize side effects. It serves as an option that meets the demands of parents who wish to minimize medication use due to the nature of children. The goal is to alter the internal environment (liver wind and heart and gallbladder deficiency) responsible for tic occurrence. Unlike medications that block dopamine from the outside, this approach creates a state from within where brain nerve excitement does not easily occur. Since effectiveness varies depending on individual constitution and medical history, we determine the direction together based on the treatment response during the first 1 to 2 months.
