Q Is it safe to give herbal medicine to a young child? I'm worried about side effects.
A We prescribe with pediatric-specific dosages and herb compositions, and we do not use herbs that are contraindicated for children. If side effects occur, we adjust immediately.
Detailed Answer
Pediatric herbal prescriptions are different from those for adults. From the selection of herbs to the dosage, we adjust to the child's age, weight, and digestive capacity, and we exclude strong purgative herbs from pediatric prescriptions. After prescribing, we monitor changes in appetite, stool condition, and sleep together with the caregiver.
Korean Medicine Clinic Perspective
After the first prescription, we check the response over 1 to 2 weeks of use and adjust the composition if necessary. Rarely, there may be a temporary adjustment reaction (temporary loose stool, fatigue), and in most cases it resolves within 3 to 5 days. If symptoms persist, please come in immediately.
